Unicompartmental
knee replacement also known as uni-knee or half-knee
replacement , is done when predominantly one of
the three compartments of the knee is arthritic.
The worn surfaces of one side (compartment) of
the thigh bone and leg bone at the knee joint
are resurfaced.
It is a smaller procedure in terms of surgical
cut required, blood loss and recovery when compared
to total knee replacement. The patient stays in
the hospital for 5-7 days and is able to walk
the next day after the surgery with the help of
support. The patient can visit the wash-room on
the second or third day. |
